A House committe heard a bill that would hold owners of handguns responsible if the gun is used to injure or kill a child. Mary Jackson has more from Jefferson City.
The bill would make the owner guilty of a class D felony if the gun is not unloaded when stored or not attached with a trigger lock.
Linda Spence, an administrator at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, testified in favor of the bill.
Representative Jon Dolan spoke out against the bill. He said the penalty would be too strong and the loss of a child was devastating enough.
From Jefferson City, I'm Mary Jackson.
