Missouri's governor Mel Carnahan made education the focus of his inaugural speech Monday. And then, to reemphasize that issue, students became the first with whom he met after be began his second term as governor as we hear in this story from Phill Brooks in Jefferson City.
The governor met with some 65 children from schools around the state just minutes after his inaugural speech.
At his session in his office, Carnahan gave a short talk and then took questions from the students.
To one student's question, the governor's re-emphasized just how important education will be for his second term:
Carnahan's meeting with school students was not a surprise. Four years ago, immediately after his inauguration the Missouri governor met with students to demonstrate the importance of education.
