Missouri's governor has rejected world-wide appeals to spare the life of convicted killer Alan Bannister who's scheeudle to be executed just after midnight tonight. Phill Brooks has the story from Jefferson City:
As the day progressed, hundreds of letters from throughout the world continued to flood into the governor's office -- urging clemency for the convicted killer.
But the governor's spokesman Chris Sifford said the international attention had little effect on the decision to deny clemency to Alan Bannister:
Sifford said that just before making the final decision, the governor's chief of staff made a final round of calls to the prosecutor and the sheriff -- to ask if there was anything that would change the governor's decision.
There wasn't. So barring an unexpected, last minute court action, Alan Bannister will die just after midnight tonight.
