Maxwell runs for Lt. Governor

Central Missouri State Senator Joe Maxwell has become the first democrat to step into the vacuum left by the startling announcement that Lt. Gov. Roger Wilson is not running for re-election. Arshiya Syed has the story from Jefferson City:

The Mexico Democrat announced he's going to run for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor.

Maxwell made his announcement even before Roger Wilson announced his decision to drop out of the race.

Maxwell said he'll stress job opportunities in his campaign:

Just 24-hours ago, Maxwell was running for State Treasurer. But it was when he learned the lieutenant governor's job was open, that he quickly changed races.
