Once again, MoDOT is asking lawmakers to give them toll road authority. Zack Ottenstein reports from Jefferson City.
Lawmakers gathered Wednesday to hear from MODOT officials about their yearly performance and plans for the future.
The department says it needs more funds in order to maintain its current roads and continue building new ones.
Department Director Henry Hungerbeeler says the funds would be used to do work on I-70.
In order to get toll road authority, voters would have to pass it on the ballot.
Voters have defeated similar initiatives in the past.
From the state Capitol, I'm Zack Ottenstein.

Department Director Henry Hungerbeeler says the passage of one U.S. Senate bill could raise more than one billion dollars for MODOT over the next several years.
Hungerbeeler says the money will go into more than just new projects.
While the bill has passed through its initial committee chaired by Missouri Sen. Kit Bond (R), it has yet to reach the Senate floor.
