JEFFERSON CITY -State Auditor Claire McCaskill will announce Monday her intentions to run against incumbent Gov. Bob Holden in a primary race for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination.
The governor has no planned response to McCaskill's anticipated announcement.
McCaskill trails Holden in campaign finances with $1.3 million to his $2.3 million, but Glenn Campbell, McCaskill's campaign manager, says McCaskill will close the gap.
The governor did not raise as much money last quarter and McCaskill's $1.3 million in the bank without even being a declared candidate makes her a financially viable candidate, Campbell said.
No Republicans have entered the race, but supporters for Secretary of State Matt Blunt's bid for the governorship have reported raising $1.9 million for his potential campaign.
