The Missouri State Legislature passed more than 200 bills this year. While Governor Holden signed the majority of them, many were signed behind closed doors.
Megan Clarke has the story.
Since May, Governor Holden signed almost one-hundred and eighty bills into law, but only 31 were signed in public.
Senate President Pro Temp Peter Kinder says that number is low compared to previous years. Kinder says he's puzzled by Holden's actions.
I TAKE IT THAT IT IS A PART OF SOME CAMPAIGN STRATEGY URGED ON HIM BY HIS HANDLERS, BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN EXPLAINED TO ME AND I WOULD NOT VENTURE AN EXPLANATION.
Kinder says some of the bills signed in secret are very worthy of publicity. Two of the major bills, Foster Care Reform and Action Against Meth Producers are sponsored by Republicans.
Governor Holden made his way around the state today signing into law the Jobs Now bill. But Holden has been very private about signing the majority of bills. Megan Clarke explains.
So far, Governor Holden has signed almost one-hundred and eighty bills, but only 31 were signed in public.
Senate President Pro Temp Peter Kinder says he's puzzled about why Holden made such a public event so private.
I DON'T KNOW QUITE WHAT TO MAKE OF IT.
Kinder says no explanation has been given by the Governor.
PERHAPS HE DOESN'T WANT TO GIVE THEIR REPUBLICAN SPONSORS EVEN A FEW MINUTES OF PUBLICITY.
