The House bill aims to make it more difficult for Missouri minors to get abortions in Illinois.

The bill also penalizes anyone who helps minors get abortions across state lines.

Supporters of the bill say it will close a loophole in Missouri law.

The bill's sponsor, St. Louis County Republican Representative Jane Cunningham held her ground during the four-hour long debate.

But St. Louis County Democratic Representative Maria Chappelle-Nadal says the bill would do nothing to reduce the demand for abortions.

The House bill is trying to make it more difficult for Missouri teenagers to get abortions in other states.

Missouri requires parental consent for minors wanting abortions.

But states like Illinois don't, so many Missouri teens go to clinics just across the border.

Supporters of the bill say hundreds of Missourians get abortions in Illinois each year.

St. Louis County Republican Representative Jane Cunningham says it is wrong for minors to avoid Missouri's laws.

Contents: We pass a law in Missouri because we have that value, and for people to get around that is wrong. So we need to close that loophole.

The bill must pass another vote in the House before the Senate gets a chance to debate it.
