The Senate Education Committee voted to allow a student representative of the board of curators to have a vote on any matter coming before the board.
University of Missouri-Kansas City senior Charles Stadtlander of the Associated Students of the University of Missouri says students pay tuition, which means students deserve a vote.
Opponents to the measure say allowing students to vote on sensitive personnel issues could create a conflict of interest, or expose student members to undue pressure from professors or faculty.

The Senate Education committee voted to allow a student member of a university board of curators to have a vote in any matter heard before the board.
Currently, student representatives do not have a vote.
Opponents to the bill say allowing students to vote on personnel issues could expose students to pressure or retribution from disciplined professors or faculty.
University student and representative of the Associate Students of the University of Missouri Charles Stadtlander says the vote has deeper significance.
The voting power could be temporary.
In 2009 a legislative review would determine if it should continue.
