Attorney General Fighting Wire Fraud

Almost a third of all wire transfers to Canada are fraudulent. Jonathan Levin has more on what Jay Nixon is doing to stop the problem.

The attorney general reached an agreement with Western Union forcing the company to help combat wire fraud.

Nixon's spokeman Jim Gardner says people must be weary of fraud.

The agreement will allow customers to cancel uncollected wire transfers when they suspect fraud without paying a fee . Western Union will also be spending $8 million on fraud education. From the state Capitol, I'm Jonathan Levin.

Missourians are payig a high price for wire fraud. Jay Nixon today took steps to help prevent it from continuing to go on. Jonathan Levin has more from Jefferson City.

Missouri joined with 46 other states signing an agreement with Western Union to help stop wire fraud.

An estimated $113 million is lost nationaly each year to fraudulent transfers to Canada.

Spokesman Jim Gardner explains how this happens:

As part of the deal Western Union will spend $8 million on consumer education. The company will also institute a training program to help their employees spot potential fraud.
