Governor Blunt receives dam survey results

The Department of Natural Resources sent Governor Blunt important information about Missouri's dams.

Governor Blunt received the results of the survey of Missouri's 653 dams on Wednesday. The two-month survey is in response to the Taum Sauk dam flooding in mid-December. Communications director Connie Patterson says other state's dam laws were the basis for this survey

Contents: Due to the public interest in the issue, Governor Blunt asked that we resurrect that, polish it off, update it, and put together a very comprehensive look at Missouri's dam safety law in comparison to what other states had on their books to see if we needed to strengthen or revise our dam safety laws here in Missouri

Contents: One of the things I think will come away from this with a better understanding of is our law in Missouri strong enough, does it need revision? I'm sure that we're gonna see some good recommendations coming from the governor, and at this point, it's just good public policy for us to look at this issue, particularly in light of the events of December when the Taum Sauk reservoir failed.
