ANCHOR INTRO:
Attorney General Jay Nixon is sticking it to Amega, a mobile home business, for pocketing consumer's money.
Hillari Duthoo (DOO-thoh) has the story from Jefferson City.
The Missouri Attorney General is seeking a settlement from Amega, an Ashland mobile home agency for falsely telling consumers that down payments would be returned if acceptable financing counldn't be arranged.
Nixon's office also says the company made false promises about mobile home features and services it would provide.
He says he wants to send a signal to other corrupt businesses that his office is serious.
"What you have here is a web of deceit that was designed to rip people off, and it did rip people off and that's why putting half a million dollars back in their hands and making sure that everybody in the state knows we are going to enforce these laws is a very sigificant and serious signal."
Under a court signed order, the company must pay total of over 500 thousand dollars in customer restitution.

Attorney General Jay Nixon is seeking restitution from Amega, a Mid-Missouri mobile home dealer for improper business tactics.
Hillari Duthoo (DOO-thoh) has the story from the state Capitol.
Attorney General Jay Nixon wants to send a clear signal to Amega, and other businesses like it, that his office is serious.
Nixon received an injunction which resolves a lawsuit he made against Amega Sales in 2004.
Amega is an Ashland based mobile home business.
He says the company made several false promises verbally and in writing about returning down payments, mobile home features and services Amega would provide.
The Attorney General says several victims lost money after they were required to come up with what he calls substancial down payments to get financing.
"However they weren't told before they made the down payment what the financing terms would be. When the consumers found out the terms, and rejected them as unreasonable, Amega pocketed the down paymentswhich was as much as 2500 dollars for some consumers."
Amega Sales is one of the largest mobile home retailers in the Mid-Missouri area.
