Currently, Jefferson, St.Charles, St.Louis and Franklin counties, violate the Environmental Protection Agency's air pollution standards. However, state environmental engineer, John Rustige says the area is close to meeting the standard. The department expects the area to meet the EPA's air quality standards by 2010.
