The minimum age for buckling children up may soon go up.

Current Missouri law says children three and under must be restrained in a child safety seat.
But St. Louis County Democrat Barbara Fraser wants to require all children under 80 pounds to sit in a child safety seat.
According to a Center for Disease Control chart, more than 95 percent of eight year olds are less than 80 pounds.
Fraser says her legislation just as much about education as it is about safety.
Fraser says her bill could be packaged together with the proposed legislation allowing law enforcement officers to fine drivers solely for seat belt violations.

St. Louis County Democrat Barbara Fraser is proposing legislation to up the minimum age for safety seat requirements.
The bill would require parents to restrain all children under 80 pounds or eight years old in a safety seat.
Fraser says the extra requirements would go a long way.

St. Louis County Representative Barbara Fraser is proposing a bill that would require all children younger than eight years old or weighing less than 80 pounds to sit in a child safety seat.
According to a Center for Disease Control chart, this would include more than 95 percent of eight year olds.
Fraser says the bill is about more than just safety.
Fraser says the law would allow violators to purchase a safety seat to avoid a fine.
