Gaw warns of future rate hikes

Intro: As Terry Jarrett prepares to step in as the new head of the Public Service Commission, outgoing commissioner Steve Gaw issued a warning to utility rate payers in Missouri.

Gaw expects there to be increasing pressure over the next few years for utility rates in Missouri to rise.

Gaw explained the current system for delivering energy as well as the heightened investment in it over the next few years would lead to the rate hikes.

Description: I think it's going to be very important for those who sit on this commission to be aware of the expenditures that are being requested so that rate payers are protected adequately.

Gaw called on the Missouri public as well as the media to pay more attention to this issue, one he says will have a real impact on the people of Missouri.

Gaw was guarded when asked about what he plans to do, but said he will take the next few weeks to evaluate his next step.

Gaw maintains that it would have been improper to take steps while still at the PSC in regards to his career outside of the commission.

Gaw expressed his desire to see the Commission continue the investigation into the Taum Sauk disaster.

Gaw voiced his concern that AmerenUE will take the necessary steps to ensure profits don't trump safety.
