Legislation would not only require a 24 hour waiting period for abortions, it would also require information about abortion alternatives to be provided for a woman who is considering an abortion.

Six witnesses testified in favor of the bill, with two of them being mothers who had had abortions but have come to regret their decisions.

Lori Driggs was one of the mothers who now directs a post-abortion program.  She stated the importance of ultrasounds to women considering abortions. 

Missouri Planned Parenthood representative Michelle Trupiano said abortion clinics already have a policy of providing ultrasounds to women, however they do not have a set time limit in which they do so.

Intro:  Upon the 35th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, Missouri lawmakers are urged to pass legislation that would put a 24 hour waiting period on abortions, a move Planned Parenthood representatives call, "unnecessary."

The bill would also require abortion facilities to provide women with ultrasounds prior to the procedure, a move Planned Parenthood representative Michelle Trupiano says is already practiced by abortion institutions, just without a time period.

Trupiano also questioned a portion of the bill that would require the availability of alternative abortion information, saying she fears the information provided by the state would be biased.

One supporter of the bill, Kendra Matthewson, said there is a need of more accurate information in order for a woman to make a decision without future regret.
