Lt. Governor Peter Kinder is the only Republican to survive the statewide Democratic sweep in this year's election.
Republican House majority leader Representative Steven Tilley of Perryville, says Kinder will serve a vital role that will be much larger than Lt. Governor.

Kinder took over for Democrat Joe Maxwell when he won the seat in 2004, a very successful year for Republicans in statewide offices.
Tilley argues that although Kinder is the only Republican elected, the conservative base remains strong in Missouri.
