Wrap: NATURAL SOUND - LAWNMOWERS

It's hardly a warm summer day with dew on the grass.

Instead, on a cold December day, you can hear the crews cutting the Capitol lawn one last time this year, all funded by taxpayers.

State facilities director Jeff Schaeperkoeter says the only cost is putting gas in the lawnmowers.

Actuality:  GRASS3.WAV
Run Time:  00:12
Description: "Legislature comes back in three weeks, all the visitors come back in three weeks. I want these grounds to be lookin' good and so do my folks. And if it's a few extra dollars...money well-spent."

Schaeperkoeter says the state has full-time workers in charge of the Capitol lawn.

And even though there wasn't much to cut, they thought it needed one more mow.

From a cold State Capitol, with its fresh-cut lawn, I'm Theo Keith, Newsradio 1120 KMOX.
