One St. Louis County Democrat is sponsoring a bill to ensure that students trying to leave an unaccredited school district have a criteria for admission. State Representative Theodore Hoskins said too many students are being turned away from a better education without any reason.

Run Time: 00:15

Description: The purpose of the bill is to ensure that quality education is provided to any student that wish to pursue a different avenue instead of retaining them in a school district that's not properly preparing them.

Opposition to the bill may come from Democrats and Republicans alike, some who are opposed to vouchers, others who are aligned with union groups that oppose transferring school districts.

State Representative Theodore Hoskins said the key to getting more students into accredited schools could be lying in the hands of new Democrats. The St. Louis County Democrat said his legislation will create criteria to determine what students may leave an unaccredited district to get a better education.

Actuality:  HOSKINS2.WAV
Run Time: 00:15
Description: You know we got 20 something new democrats that were term limited democrats that were opposed to it. Now that we have some new democrats that I think are more educated, more orientated to education, and understand the need to provide  a better quality of education.

Opposition to the bill may come from Democrats and Republicans alike, some who are opposed to vouchers, others who are aligned with union groups that oppose transferring school districts.

The bill would give the department of Elementary and Secondary Education the right to establish the criteria.
