Veterans' remains may finally be put to rest

Intro: There are unclaimed veterans remains in Missouri but one state representative wants to give fallen Americans a proper burial.

Chance Seales (SEALS) has more from Jefferson City.

If House Bill 111 is passed into law, unclaimed soldier remains will go to veterans groups to provide a resting place.
 
Tim Norton is the Missouri Veterans Commission Acting Director and he voiced strong support for the bill.

Description: And just from our part, we think it's really important that any veteran out there deserves a proper internment, and we strongly support this bill.
 
The Committee on Veterans Affairs passed the measure unanimously, which means it will hit the House floor this session.

Intro: The families of fallen Missouri veterans may finally gain closure if a House Bill makes its way through the legislature.

The proposed bill could pave the way for veterans' groups to provide a final memorial to unclaimed perished soldiers.
 
Dixon Republican Representative David Day said there are far too many unclaimed remains for this issue to fall by the wayside.

Description: It's hundreds.  I mean, we know at least that, but some of the funeral homes are reluctant to even let the veterans services organizations do the research.  Again, because of liability.  But it's a pretty impressive number.
