Wrap: The House gave first round approval to a bill that would acknowledge the rights of abortion clinic alternatives and would allow them to provide homes for pregnant women as well as counseling. 

St. Louis County Republican Representative Stacey Newman supports the bill saying it would protect these women during a time of great need. 

St. Louis City Democratic Representative Jeanette Oxford opposes the bill calling it a "freedom to lie" bill.  She also says local municipalities should have some control over these agencies.

Wrap: Under this bill, abortion clinic alternatives would provide free housing and medical assistance to women seeking help with their pregnancy without government interference. 

The bill sponsor Representative Chuck Gatschenberger says this bill would help protect those agencies' labor of love.  He also says these organizations have helped reduce abortion rates in the past.

Kansas City Democratic Representative Jason Holsman opposed the bill and says there's no redeeming language within the legislation and he did not understand why it continued to be discussed.
