Missouri engineers work on new generation of dam transformers

Alan Sullivan-- consulting engineer for Ameren Missouri-- says he supports this change from the old transformers, which his grandfather helped install nearly 80 years ago.

Description: It is absolutely worth the money we spent, both from a safety standpoint for the people who work here, environmentally for the Osage River below us and for safety of any pedestrian or vehicle traffic on the road above us.

He estimated these transformers will last between 30 to 50 years and will raise voltage by 10 times the original amount.

Ameren Missouri is replacing four deteriorating transformers with environmentally safe models.

The company's consulting engineer Alan Sullivan says the transformers new in North America will be worth the 16 million dollar investment after all four are replaced.
