Wrap: State officials have previously denied that any private information was ever released. But now the head of the state Highway Patrol says it was given to a federal Social Security investigator at least twice. Senators say that's a violation of state privacy laws.

Kansas City Republican Senator Ryan Silvey says Highway Patrol superintendent and a high-ranking official at the Department of Public Safety should lose their jobs over the controversy.

Run Time:  00:07
Description: "What I know is, if I was governor, your resignation and your resignation would have been on my desk yesterday."

The state House Speaker has also called for a formal investigation into the release of gun owners' information.

Wrap: State officials have previously denied that any private information on gun owners was ever released.

But now the head of the state Highway Patrol says a federal agent requested the entire list of all Missourians with concealed carry permits. And he got it--twice.

Columbia Republican Kurt Schaefer says those records can be used for law enforecement investigations. But he said turning over all the records could lead to illegal profiling.

Actuality:  SCHAFCCW.WAV
Run Time:  00:10
Description: "But the concept of the ability to, basically gather intelligence through profiling is a different issue than an individual law enforcement investigation."

Schaefer says the state Senate might issue a subpoena to question the federal agent further.

Wrap: State officials have previously denied that any private information on gun owners was ever released.

But now the head of the state Highway Patrol says a federal agent with the Social Security Administration requested the entire list of all 163,000 Missourians with concealed carry permits. And he got it--twice.

Senate Republicans say that was illegal. But Highway Patrol Superintendent Ron Replogle (REP-low-gul) says it was legal.

Actuality:  REPLOGLE.WAV
Run Time:  00:10
Description: "We feel, the Patrol, and I've checked with our legal counsel, that our employees at the time this was released, both times, felt that this was a legitimate criminal investigation."

Schaefer says the state Senate might issue a subpoena to question the federal agent further.
