One of the three Democrats in question is Sen. Bill Clay, D-St. Louis. Having won the primary, Clay is a virtual shoe-in for Congress in a Democrat-dominated district. If he was to resign now, a replacement could be on the ballot in November.
"He is an extension of the Clinton Administration and has done a very good job of turning this country around and bringing about prosperity," said Sen. Bill Clay, D-St. Louis.
After eight terms as a Democrat in the Missouri statehouse, William Lacy Clay, Jr. will try to secure the Democratic nomination to succeed his father, Rep. Bill Clay, D-St. Louis, who is retiring after 32 years in Congress.
A bill proposed today by Senator Bill Clay would allow new-parents to take a 12 week paid leave. The money would be paid to employees from the state's unemployment compensation trust fund.
