Much to the dismay of suburban lawmakers like Jackson County Republican Bob Johnson, the House version deviated from the Senate version of the formula, allocating more state money to rural districts.
With all of the Republicans voting against the bill coming from St. Louis and Jackson counties or Springfield, Rep. Bob Johnson, R-Lee's Summit, said the committee's changes unfairly hurt suburban districts.
A similar bill was rejected by the House last session thanks in part to resistance from within the Republican caucus. Reps. Bryan Pratt, R-Blue Springs and Bob Johnson, R-Lee's Summit, testified against the bill, which suggests the name change faces significant hurdles on the House floor.
