In his January speech nominating Hanaway for Speaker of the House, Rep. Bryan Pratt, R-Blue Springs, said that Hanaway wasn't selected "on a basis of gender, but because [she was] by far the best person for that position."
For freshman Rep. Bryan Pratt, R-Jackson County, the real frustration has come when partisanship leads to the defeat of a bill that he feels everyone should agree on.
Republican freshman Bryan Pratt sponsored one of the most high-profile bills of the session...It was the bill that authorized the state to issue bonds to balance this year's budget.
"We are changing the way we budget around here by doing more performance reviews of programs to see which ones deserve more money and which ones don't," said Rep. Bryan Pratt, R-Jackson County.
"I do not want my state tax dollars... to fund abortions. And a strong majority of Missourians feel that same way," said Rep. Bryan Pratt, R-Jackson County.
But Rep. Bryan Pratt, R-Jackson County said he is concerned that a state law passed before the FCC would rule might "exceed the scope of the Federal Government."
Rep. Bryan Pratt, who serves on the House Health Care Committee that has passed a number of these mandates, said that while he voted in favor of some of the mandates, he fears the Legislature may be in danger of carrying good intentions too far.
"As long as minimum requirements continue to increase, we're going to price people out of the market," said Rep. Bryan Pratt, R-Jackson County. "And we'd be doing a disservice to people with lower incomes."
