But the bill sponsor, Republican Senator Delbert Scott says the measure is designed to lower medical malpractice insurance rates, which he says are being driven up by large awards in malpractice lawsuits.
Sen. John Cauthorn from Mexico began the day asking to lower the default speed limit on certain rural Missouri roads from 60 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour. Sen. Delbert Scott from Lowry City said he was concerned about the effect of lowering the speed limit that much.
Supporters of the bill have heard little oppositon the the measure. Republican Representative Delbert Scott says the food manufacturers are not at fault.
"I think we need to have the discussions, whether it's successful or not I don't know," said one of the Senate bill's sponsor -- Sen. Delbert Scott, R-Lowry City.
