Jackson Democratic Senator Jolie Justus said discussion on the bill is a waste of time, since abortions after 20 weeks typically are not done on viable fetuses.
"The reality is, the last checks went out on Sunday so there are no more checks," Sen. Jolie Justus, D-Jackson County, said. "Even if we get it finished this week, there are people who are going to have a week without their check."
This back and forth between Jackson County Democratic Senators Victor Callahan and Jolie Justus characterized the debate over a Republican led resolution dealing with state sovereignty.

The Senate voted 29-3 to give first-round approval to the bills. Two Democratic senators from St. Louis County, Maria Chappell-Nadal and Tim Green, and one from Jackson County, Jolie Justus, voted against the bill.
