Bill sponsor Lana Stokan of St. Louis says she wants to focus on violations which result in serious physical injury or imminent danger to patients. A clause allowing Alzheimers facilities to remedy problems in good faith was removed. Nevertheless, Representative Jim Murphy from St. Louis still opposes the bill because he favors penalties for all infractions.
The House bill was sponsored by Rep. Lana Stokan, D-St.Louis County. She argues anyone should be able to file a report about a person's inability to drive.
If a nursing home tells you they will provide special care for your grandmother with Alzheimer's, that may mean they only put her in a different room. Under a bill passed by the House, this information would be availible when you inquire about special care.
