In their sixth meeting, an interim house committee formed to investigate agriculture in Missouri met with representatives from some of Missouri's major meat producers at the state capitol. The group's focus is to help Missouri's family farmers and Rep. Sam Leake, the committee's chair, says farmers may be in trouble.
Carnahan's order shows the state is committed to helping pork producers in their current plight, said the House Agriculture chairman -- Rep. Sam Leake, D-Center. He said he hopes increased demand will keep the farmers in business.
"Tough times are ahead," said Sam Leake, D-Center, House Agriculture Committee chairman. "This isn't a magic wand, but it is one of several measures we can use to help."
