Sen. Steve Ehlmann, R-St. Charles, submitted the proposal Wednesday but withdrew it today after several senators claimed the resolution was out of order.
After more than an hour of debate, Sen. Steve Ehlmann, Senate Republican leader from St. Charles, withdrew the resolution he first proposed Wednesday, effectively killing the proposal. The resolution would not have been enforceable by law, but would have only expressed the Senate's opinion that the executives should testify.
The Senate session passed quickly and quietly, save for one resolution presented by Sen. Steve Ehlmann of St. Charles. On his last days as a senator, Ehlmann called for the investigation of one casino's relationship with a gambling lobbyist.
St. Charles Seantor Steve Ehlmann, and St. Louis Senators Franc Flotron and Walt Mueller will leave the senate at the close of the chamber's veto session.
Senate Minority leader Steve Ehlmann who had urged the governor to institue a can one week ago says this latest action from the governor isn't sufficient.
On Tuesday, during a radio interview on the possibility of transferring control of Lambert Airport from St. Louis City to a regional board, Rep. Quincy Troupe, a Democrat, tarred the measure's sponsor as racist. Sen. Steve Ehlmann, Troupe said,"just needs to put on his hood and declare himself the grand dragon or the imperial wizard."
Republican Steve Ehlmann says if the people vote against the measure, things will be right back where they are today... waiting for a court decision on how Missouri can use tobacco money.
Senate GOP Leader Steve Ehlmann, R-St. Charles, is sponsoring another bill on scalping. His bill is similar to Illinois law that requires a state license for scalping.
"We don't want to have the kind of pork barrel we see in Washington," said Rep. Steve Ehlmann, R-St.Charles County. "I have no doubt there would be attempts to do that."
However, in the Republican's response to the State of the State, the Senate Minority Floor Leader Steve Ehlmann, R-St. Charles, said the two years the governor's proposed is too long to wait for a solution.
"I'm not going to assume that there is anything wrong just because Ronnie DePasco's nephew was hired," said Senate GOP Leader Steve Ehlmann, R-St. Charles. "The only thing wrong would be if he got the job over more qualified people."
