St. Charles Republican Senator Tom Dempsey is proposing "Show Me Health Care," a bill that would give coverage to uninsured Missourians who were cut off during Matt Blunt's term as governor.
Although the measure met with stiff opposition from fellow Republicans in the legislature, a similar approach for expanded health-care coverage emerged in the Senate from Sen. Tom Dempsey, R- St. Charles County. Dempsey's measure cleared the Senate but died in the House.
"It's frustrating to put so much time into something and not get it done, but that's the process," said the bill's Senate sponsor, Sen. Tom Dempsey, R-St. Charles County. Dempsey said he feels good about the bill that he sent to the House: "If I thought CON was supposed to be part of the bill, I would've put it in there."
The Senate sponsor -- Sen. Tom Dempsey, R-St. Charles, said he plans on starting over next session and pre-filing before the start of the session. Dempsey suggested his new bill would be similar to his Senate-approved plan.
The bill, sponsored by freshman Sen. Tom Dempsey, R- St. Charles County, would provide insurance to an estimated 201,200 by the time of full implementation. Dempsey estimates there currently are 719,000 uninsured Missourians. Legislative staff estimated the original bill with all of its provisions -- and before committee changes -- ultimately would cost more than $94 million per year.

He said the bill would make sure that companies that often do business with foreign governments, such as Boeing Co., are not subject to taxation.
