But Assistant Majority Leader Wayne Crump, D-Potosi, said the Republicans brought up the abortion bill for political reasons. He said if Republicans had overridden the governor's veto, it would have been looked bad for an incumbent governor running for reelection in November.
The resolution to amend the Constitution to allow Missourians to carry concealed weapons died in the House Judiciary Committee. GOP members and some Democrats voted against it. The sponsor Wayne Crump charges Republicans on the committee killed the resolution to ensure the NRA would spend its money trying to defeat the governor--rather than trying to pass concealed carry.
"This stops the revolving door people," said Rep. Wayne Crump, D-Potosi, the bill's sponsor. "They would always be under the control of the Department of Corrections for life."
