Sen. Yvonne Wilson, D-Kansas City, submitted legislation that would make hanging a noose a hate crime and said she did so because the Jena Six trial "raised eyebrows" across the country.
"I think this money could be utilized in another way," said Sen. Yvonne Wilson, D-Kansas City, who suggested MoHELA profits could be used for loan forgiveness and scholarship.
The committee discussed the posible conflict of interests that could arise if a student is given the same priveleges as the other curators. Sen. Yvonne Wilson, D-Jackson County, said that she had opposed similar legislation in the past because she was uncomfortable with students voting on issues relating to faculty.
