HMO regulation to be part of the governor's legislative agenda.

The governor's office says managed care regulation will be one of his priorties for the 1997 legislative session.

After failure in 1994 of his legislative package to regulate health insurance, Gov. Mel Carnahan had left the idea off his agenda for subsequent sessions -- saying special interest opposition was two strong.

This fall and summer, a joint committee of the legislature has been holding extensive hearings on the managed care issue.

Freshmen lawmakers go to school.

About two dozen fresmen lawmakers have began this week a two-week training session about the legislative process and state government.

The new members, who will take office Jan. 8, are attending sessions on how the legislative session works and then will tour state facilities across the state.

The legislature's Joint Committee on Legislative Research has selected the committee's former chairman as staff director for the committee.

Rep. Don Prost was selected from among six applicants for the job that pays more than double the salary of a legislator.

Lottery to be held for AIDS treatment.

Missouri's Health Department has scheduled a lottery for this Friday to allocate funds for AIDS treatment.

So far, there's more money than applicants -- so there could be no losers.
